7 Tips to Follow If You are Still Job Hunting Post Graduation

Job hunting at the end of your degree can be stressful, especially if you don’t know where else to look or who else to reach out to. Luckily, we have eight tips that could help you land your dream job.

TIP #1: Utilize labels on Handshake

Did you know that the CSE uses labels on Handshake that make your job search easy? On Handshake, you have the option to filter through thousands of jobs to only show the ones that the CSE has sourced or posted. This is a great lead for you as a job seeker! Learn more about the CSE labels here.

TIP #2: Reach out to alumni on LinkedIn and BConnect (don’t discount recent alumni)

Brandeis alumni are ALWAYS willing and excited to help their fellow Brandeisians. Identify who you’d like to reach out to, send a short hello message, and start building your relationship! Two things to keep in mind: alumni are busy and they may take a few days to respond to you (they are not intentionally ignoring you!) and reaching out to alumni should be to learn more about a company, industry, etc – not to ask for a job. Build the relationship and everything will follow after.

TIP #3: Search beyond Handshake (LinkedIn, Glassdoor, Built in Boston)

TIP #4: Make sure your LinkedIn profile is as polished as possible

Keeping your LinkedIn up to date is important for alumni and recruiters to see that you are active, engaged, and are always looking to put your best foot forward. If you need help with sprucing up your LinkedIn, check out the LinkedIn Guides by the LinkedIn Guys.

TIP #5: Search CSE Connect for content related to your job search. We recommend starting with news and resources to access helpful articles, Vault Industry Guides, interview prep tools and more.

TIP #6: Consider a temporary RA position

A research assistant at the International Business School assists professors with academic research in the areas of business, economics, econometrics, data analytics, and finance. TIP #7: Stay in touch with the CSE! (keep us posted on your job search. reach out to your coach for help. etc.)
