Fall 2022 Field Projects Timeline

Hi everyone!

We have been fielding a lot of questions about Fall field projects (FPs), so read on if you plan to take one this Fall, or aren’t sure yet and want to hear a little more about timeline and expectations!

Our Fall field projects and project partners have not been solidified yet – this will be complete by 8/29! This means we aren’t able to give you a list of projects, or a list of companies at this point in time. But don’t worry! You will get an email with this information as soon as we are ready to share it later this month.

Our Fall semester timeline for field projects is as follows:

8/24/2022 10-11am Pre-FP webinar – required to apply!

Expectations: Field projects work best virtually, so no worries about where you are located! Fall field projects are the same as Spring and Summer projects in the sense that they are still considered a 4-credit academic course, and each student on the team will be expected to devote 9 hours a week to the project work. It is not a light undertaking, and if you are taking a full course load, you may want to speak to your advisor on whether or not it is the right time for you to take part in a field project. It can be a lot to balance! Your faculty advisor will indeed grade you on your participation/work.

Waiting to hear on an internship offer? If you feel confident you will get and take an internship, applying for a field project might not be right for you. There is a small window of time where you can apply for a field project, be placed on one, and drop it easily. It doesn’t look great to our project partners (sometimes C-suite level people at a company!) to have students drop out mid project, so we avoid that as much as we can. It also makes for an unfair work load for the remaining students on the team if others drop the project. Speak with your advisor if you have any concerns!

Why Apply? So many reasons! Check them out here. We hope you’ll join us for the Fall semester if it is right for you! Afterwards, see our article on How To Apply so you can prepare in the meantime. As a reminder, field projects run every semester! They are also not guaranteed, so it is important to have a strong application (especially the 150-word statements on why you want to apply!).

Next Steps: Keep an eye out for emails starting next week about how to attend a Pre-Field Project webinar where we will discuss these requirements and expectations more in depth before the application even goes live.

Looking forward to a fabulous Fall semester!
