In this original CSE Connect Blog Post, Prachi Mishra, MSBA’25, details career-related resources and activities that were especially impactful during her first year at Brandeis International Business School.
Leaving my homeland for the first time was daunting, especially with the uncertainty of how I would manage everything in a foreign land. However, my journey at Brandeis has been remarkably smooth.
As I read online, Brandeis is described as a close-knit community, and I have truly felt that here. This supportive environment has been the cornerstone of my experience. Here are some aspects of Brandeis that I find particularly amazing:
Navigating the Brandeis Alumni and Peer Network
The diverse and extensive alumni network at Brandeis is phenomenal. What stands out the most is their eagerness to help current students. From day one, I have had numerous opportunities to connect with alumni who are eager to share their experiences and insights.
These interactions have not only provided me with valuable career advice but also helped me navigate the challenges of adapting to a new educational system.
The alumni network has facilitated meaningful connections that I believe will last long after I graduate. Their willingness to mentor and guide us, offering everything from interview tips to job leads, has been an incredible asset in my academic and professional journey.
I attended many events in the past year. In particular, the Odyssey cruise and the Socials hosted at Margaritas and the Casino Night stood out for me as both fun and educational. We able to practice networking with alumni, peers, faculty, and staff.
Getting to know the Faculty
The faculty at Brandeis is top-notch. The professors are not only highly knowledgeable but also incredibly humble and approachable. It’s not just a few professors; every professor I’ve encountered is professional and genuinely cares about each student’s success. This individualized attention has significantly enhanced my learning experience.
The professors go above and beyond to ensure we understand the material, often staying after class to answer questions or provide additional resources. Their open-door policy encourages students to seek help and advice, fostering a collaborative learning environment. The faculty’s dedication to teaching and their passion for their subjects have been truly inspiring and motivating.
Career Journey Mapping with the CSE
The CSE team is a unique and invaluable resource at Brandeis. My Career Coach has been a constant source of support and guidance, especially when I faced uncertainties regarding my choices for a Field Project.
The CSE also organizes numerous networking events, allowing us to connect with alumni and expand our professional networks, which is crucial during our graduate studies. These events range from formal career fairs to networking events, providing diverse opportunities to meet potential employers and mentors.
I especially enjoyed the speed networking event with Scott Josephson When he talked about his Professional journey, it was inspiring to hear how he landed in Google.
The personalized career counseling sessions have helped me refine my resume, improve my interview skills, and develop a strategic job search plan. The CSE’s commitment to student success is evident in every aspect of their programming.
Getting Support from the Student Support Services:
Brandeis offers a comprehensive Student Support Services program that is community-oriented, focusing on students who are the first in their families to attend college and those from resource-restricted backgrounds.
The program promotes academic success through advising, peer tutoring, peer mentoring, cultural enrichment activities, and workshops. Services include professional advising, financial aid, and academic support, all of which have been incredibly beneficial to me.
The program has created a supportive environment where students can thrive academically and personally. Additionally, the peer mentoring program has connected me with upper-year students who provide guidance and encouragement, making the transition to Brandeis much smoother.
Exploring Diverse Student Organizations
Beyond academics, Brandeis offers a variety of clubs that cater to diverse interests; these include the International Marketing Club, Data Analytics Club, Brandeis Fintech Club, and the International Business Women’s Club, among others.
Being part of the International Business Women’s Club has enriched my experience by allowing me to engage with like-minded peers and participate in enriching activities. These clubs offer opportunities for professional development, networking, and personal growth. Participating in club events and competitions has helped me apply what I’ve learned in the classroom to real-world scenarios.
The clubs also host guest speakers, industry panels, and social events that foster a sense of community and belonging. Through these extracurricular activities, I have developed leadership skills and built a network of friends and professionals who share my interests and goals.
Moving Forward.. Together
My time at Brandeis has been filled with support, growth, and opportunities. The sense of community, excellent faculty, robust support services, and diverse extracurricular activities have made my year here a truly transformative experience. I am grateful for the experiences and connections I have made.
I plan to continue adding on to my experiences by doing a Field Project this summer and have an exciting Fall 24 Semester post the project completion!
