Stanford University is seeking a Financial Analyst for the SADR within the School of Medicine (SoM). The Financial Analyst will support the daily business operations of SoM SADR directly under the Dean’s Office. This position will report to the Sr. Financial Analyst and will be a member of the SADR’s accounting and finance team.
- Assist in the month-end close process and perform a variety of regular and recurring accounting functions involving fiscal interpretation and analysis, profit and loss and balance sheet reconciliations, and reviews of multiple accounts and transactions.
- Prepare and reconcile monthly Service Center invoices using iLab Solutions (Service Center software management system) to ensure the monthly billing cycle is accurate, timely, and all processes are well documented. Communicate with customers regarding any billing, pricing, receivables, or related issues. Provide training and guidance to SoM users of iLab to help identify and resolve any billing issues.
- Construct and assemble data for budgeting and decision making; develop conclusions, and present high level summary of recommendations. Develop budget, forecasting, and analyses to be used by internal management for key activities or decision making. Participate in the preparation of Service Center budgets, forecasts, and government rate packages.
- Compile, monitor, and report on Service Center capital debt budget.
- Assist in the start-up of any new Service Center business operations.
- Assist in preparation of, monitoring, and performance reporting for the Senior Associate Dean (SAD) for Research Operating and Med School Project (MSP) Budgets and the Budget for Service Centers directly overseen by the SAD.
- Identify, prioritize, and resolve financial issues; probe beyond stated situations; identify underlying issues, and recognize exceptions. Participate in developing solutions that may require policy changes or the development of new processes; maintain broader organizational perspective in decision making.
- Execute internal control programs established by management, research new regulations, and recommend and implement approved changes. Manage compliance program for area of responsibility, and create complex compliance reports.
- Assist in special projects as needed.

- Understanding of the operations of a research medical school, profit and loss statements, balance sheets, general and cost accounting theory, institutional accounting systems, Service Center operations, federal regulations, financial reporting, budget/forecast development, and fund accounting.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, especially in a large, heavily regulated environment, as well as significant organizational abilities, independence, and self-motivation.
- Knowledge in databases, data extraction methods and report presentation; knowledge of Stanford University’s Oracle financial systems, and the University’s iLab Solutions system, including its data structures and methods of report generation.
- Excellent written and oral communication, including policy writing and reporting of quantitative data.
- Ability to work well with people of varying levels of authority and educational backgrounds in multiple organizations and to elicit cooperation without direct authority in order to enable cooperative problem solving.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
Bachelor’s degree and four years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
- Advanced proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial systems; internet and computer literacy.
- Knowledge of GAAP.
- Strong communication skills, including ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences and client groups.
- Demonstrated project management skills and ability to contribute to or lead part of a multi-functional team.

- Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork.
