I watched the LinkedIn Guys Course on using ChatGPT for Your Job Search and this is what I learned

Recently, I delved into the LinkedIn Guys’ course on leveraging ChatGPT for our job hunt, and it was incredibly informative! As we’ve all seen in the media, this AI sensation is more than just a chatbot – it’s a powerhouse of knowledge, generating “human-like” text to answer your questions, solve problems, and even draft emails. The LinkedIn Guys had some interesting takes on the proper ways to utilize ChatGPT throughout your job search. Here’s a rundown of my key takeaways from the experience.

To access the guide yourself:

1. Visit the CSE Connect Resource Page and click “View Resource” to see the LinkedIn Guide by the LinkedIn Guys free access instructions – read those account creation instructions carefully!
2. Once you have created an account by carefully following the Handshake steps and have logged in, this course should be free with a 100% off coupon when you go to check-out. If not, please reload the page and then try to check-out again.
3. Search the course catalog for the “Land the Perfect Job with LinkedIn” course
4. Within this course, navigate to the “Bonus Resources” section and start with the video titled “10 Ways to Use ChatGPT to Accelerate Your Career Search”
5. Watch each ChatGPT-related video and learn how to best utilize it as a tool to accelerate your career search. At the end of the course, you will gain access to a full “cheat sheet” of tips to help you make the most of ChatGPT throughout the process

General Tips for Getting Started with ChatGPT

While ChatGPT is easily accessible and free, there are other services worth exploring, such as Bing Chat, You.com, and Google Bard. No matter which platform you choose, remember:

• Be careful with confidential data
• Experiment with various prompts to discover what yields the best results
• Feed the tool-specific details like resumes and job descriptions to optimize responses
• Always, ALWAYS review and refine any output before submitting! Avoid biases and “hallucinations” (i.e. nonsense or false information) that can come from AI-produced content

In some cases using an alternative to ChatGPT can be beneficial since, unlike ChatGPT, the alternatives listed above all have internet connectivity, giving them context for information after 2021.

Career Exploration with ChatGPT According to the LinkedIn Guys

If you’re new to Chat GPT, career exploration based prompts are a great place to start. The course offered both basic and advanced prompts to guide us through our career journey:

• Finding Your Path: Simply ask, “What career should I pursue as an X major who loves Y?” or provide a resume for more tailored advice
• Testing Your Fit: Understand if a field is right for you by asking, “How can I learn about whether X field would be a good fit for me?”
• Growing Your Skills: For insights on the required skills for a particular job, use prompts like, “What technical skills do I need to apply for X job?”
• Develop Your Target List: To begin outlining companies that may be a good fit, start by asking, “What are some organizations I should apply to for X jobs?” or take this a step further by also providing your resume and an example job description you like

Optimizing Your LinkedIn Profile Using ChatGPT According to the LinkedIn Guys

The LinkedIn Guys of course covered using ChatGPT to optimize crucial job search materials like Resume, Cover Letters – what the CSE classifies as your “Professional Portfolio.” What I found the most interesting and helpful however, was how we can use ChatGPT to optimize our LinkedIn Profiles.

Developing Your LinkedIn Profile: Make your LinkedIn stand out by crafting compelling headlines and about sections tailored to specific jobs. This can be done by providing bullets about yourself or having ChatGPT edit your past sections with new information you provide.

Interviewing and Negotiation Preparation Using ChatGPT

• Prepping for Your Interview: Get insights on probable interview questions and how to answer them effectively
• Crafting a Great Thank You: Send personalized emails highlighting key interview moments
• Negotiating Based on Data: Understand industry pay standards and craft persuasive salary negotiation emails (always fact-check ChatGPT with your own research before referencing salary information provided. ChatGPT is known to hallucinate!). Additionally you should ALWAYS try to meet with your Career Coach before negotiating an offer

The digital age has brought forth numerous tools to simplify our job search. Platforms like ChatGPT, when used strategically, can be a game-changer in your career journey.
