Unpaid Summer Internship? Apply for a Summer Fellowship!

Brandeis International Business School Summer Fellowships provide financial support to graduate students participating in full time, unpaid internships during the summer term.

These fellowships are intended to help pay for living expenses over the summer and are typically $1000 – $2000, pre tax, although amounts may vary.

Visit the Summer Fellowship Criteria, Deadline & Eligibility page on your student portal to learn more and to access the application link. Applications are due by May 31, 2024.

How do I know if I am eligible?

Visit the Summer Fellowship Criteria, Deadline & Eligibility page to view eligibility requirements. Generally, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must have accepted a full time, unpaid internship prior to submitting their application.
  • Internships must equal 25 or more hours per week for a minimum of 8-12 weeks over the summer. Academic year opportunities do not qualify.
  • Internships must be unpaid. You may not receive any additional funding for the internship.
  • Applicants must be enrolled as International Business School graduate students, in good academic and community standing, at the time of the internship. May 2024 graduates do not qualify.

How do I apply?

Visit the Summer Fellowship Criteria, Deadline & Eligibility on your student portal to access the application. You will find a link to the application on the right sidebar. The application requires you to fill out some basic information and to upload the following four documents as a single PDF:

  1. CSE-approved resume
  2. Personal Statement (500 words) describing the opportunity and its value to your career
  3. Job Description
  4. Offer Letter

How can I make my application stand out?

Your personal statement is a great way to make your application shine! Let us know why this internship is important to you and your professional development. How does it relate to your studies, make you a more marketable job candidate, and/or advance your career goals? You may also use this section of the application to share any financial considerations you think the selection committee should know (e.g. the internship will be in person in a city with a high cost of living).

In addition to persuasiveness, the selection committee evaluates applications on their completeness and professional presentation so make sure to read directions carefully, submit all requested documentation, and edit for typos before you submit.

How and when will fellowship recipients be paid?

If you are awarded a fellowship, it will be issued as a single payment at the beginning of July via direct deposit or mailed check. It is important to note that fellowships are subject to taxes. If you are unable to accept taxable income for any reason, please contact globalcareers@brandeis.edu prior to submitting your application to discuss.

Additional questions?

Contact globalcareers@brandeis.edu with the subject line “Summer Fellowship” and a CSE team member will respond to you shortly. If you’re unsure if you qualify for this fellowship, we’d be happy to discuss prior to your submission!
